Give Your network A Boost With Canopy6.08.2007

Motorola Canopy Advantage™ Platform
The Broadband Market Today
Network operators of all sizes see the opportunities to meet the ever-growing demand for bandwidth, but are constrained by the chance that today's technology will become obsolete in short order.

The Canopy Advantage™ Platform

The Canopy Advantage platform is the next generation of Motorola's wireless broadband access infrastructure. With this new platform, Canopy equipment users can simultaneously enjoy the strengths of the original Canopy product coupled with dramatic improvements in throughput and latency. Motorola is actively engaged with the WiMAX Forum in the development of profiles for both licensed and unlicensed frequencies. It is Motorola’s vision to ultimately enable Canopy users to enjoy the benefits of WiMAX in the unlicensed frequency band as these capabilities become available.

With the Canopy Advantage platform, broadband providers can now offer premium services wirelessly (such as VoIP and video) as an alternative or extension to DSL or T1/E1 services. Private network operators can support distance learning, video conferencing or high-speed data transfer securely and at a fraction of the cost of subscribing to traditional wired services.
The Canopy Advantage platform is built on the field proven Canopy system and includes the high level of interference tolerance, scalability, signal reliability and ease of installation inherent in all Canopy equipment. Building on these strengths, the Canopy Advantage platform provides the following enhancements:

  • Higher Performance: Effectively reduces latency by one-third (from approximately 20 milliseconds to 5 to 7 milliseconds)
  • Faster Speeds: Essentially doubles throughput of a Canopy subscriber module (SM). It delivers data rates in excess of today's DSL and cable networks of 7 Mbps. With the new Canopy Advantage SM, the throughput doubles yet again to 14 Mbps to a single user.
  • True Quality of Service: Enables operators to provide differentiated levels of service using Committed Information Rate (CIR) and Maximum Information Rate (MIR)
  • Comprehensive Multi-Services Platform: An ATM frame structure uses small frame sizes which reduce retransmission times and provides for low latency - a critical component for delivering high quality services such as VoIP and online gaming.
  • Seamless Integration: All subscriber modules currently in the field can easily be upgraded via software download, and benefit from the Advantage platform when used with a Canopy Advantage Access Point (AP).
The Canopy Advantage platform provides protection for your investment by providing compatibility with your existing network and by being upgradeable to meet future performance requirements. And, of course, customers can take advantage of Motorola's world-class professional services and comprehensive operations, administration, maintenance & performance system, providing the key element management system tools essential to running a well-performing network

Did You Know that ...31.07.2007

Motorola Canopy is proving to be the wireless broadband solution ofchoice for high profile sporting venues where the security of thousands of people is at stake? The wireless broadband solution was usedat Kaiserslautern, Germany, to improve security at the 2006 FIFA World Cup matches held at the city’s football stadium. Security experts developed a network structure and frequency allocation plan based on Canopy modules and access points. This enabled feeds from 40 digital video cameras stationed across the stadium and neighbouring areas to be transmitted to police headquarters. Canopy’s success at Kaiserslautern could be replicated for future major sporting events, such as the next FIFA World Cup that takes place in South Africa in 2010.

HD VIDEOCONFERENCING - WHAT IS IT ?31.07.2007

Enterasys Networks Introduces High-Performance Diamond Blades for Matrix N-Series Flow Switches26.03.2007

ANDOVER, MA-- March 26, 2007--Enterasys Networks, Inc., the Secure Networks Company™ today announced the immediate availability of four new Diamond Distributed Forwarding Engines (DFEs), the latest innovation for its industry-leading Enterasys Matrix™ N-Series flow-based switches. The new DFEs deliver increased security, routing and policy scalability for backbone roles in the core and distribution layers of enterprise networks. Designed for use in any Enterasys Matrix N-Series chassis (N7, N5, N3 and N1), Diamond DFEs provide high-performance, high-density Gigabit Ethernet and 10-Gigabit Ethernet aggregation. The Diamond DFEs’ flow-based architecture delivers granular, end-to-end visibility and control over individual users, services and applications, as well as firewall-like security on every port for downstream devices through multi-user, multi-method authentication, authorization and audit. Enterasys N-Series flow switches:

  • Ensure only the right users are accessing the right information from the right place at the right time

  • Discover, classify and prioritize voice and video traffic distinctly from data traffic even though a single port may have 1,000 downstream users

  • Prevent the spread of worms or viruses throughout a network and protect users within a VLAN or workgroup through quarantine and isolation of individual conversations – not just ports and/or VLANs.

“The Diamond Distributed Forwarding Engines (DFEs) provide a fast, secure, distributed switching fabric for the N-Series chassis with unique multi-user authentication capabilities – at a price that makes it easy for existing X-Pedition/SSR customers to upgrade,” said Tere’ Bracco, Senior Research Director – Enterprise, for Current Analysis, a leading industry analysis firm. Embedded Advanced Security Applications
The Diamond DFEs accept the Matrix Security Module, enabling intrusion detection/prevention (IDS/IPS) and network access control (NAC) solutions to be integrated directly into the high-speed switching fabric on each blade. When combined with Enterasys’ policy-based visibility and control software, enterprises can automatically protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information without sacrificing performance. “From core routing to the network edge, Matrix N-Series switches with Diamond blades deliver the flexibility and features that our financial services organization demands,” said Vincent Cottone, vice president of infrastructure services for Eaton Vance, a Boston-based leader in the financial services industry. “We rely on Enterasys to ensure the security and integrity of our information and confidential client records.”

Policy-based Visibility and Control
Optimized for Secure Networks™ deployments, Diamond DFEs significantly increase the multi-user policy capacities of the Matrix N-Series, providing support for up to 2,000 authenticated users per chassis. This increased capacity enables the Matrix N-Series to act as a policy gateway for downstream devices such as third-party switches, wireless access points, and VPN concentrators to ensure only authorized users and devices (e.g., printers, IP phones and security cameras) can access the network.

“For a law firm, client confidentiality is paramount,” said Tim O’Donnell, network analyst for Reed Smith, one of the 15 largest law firms in the world. “Typical network security measures aren’t good enough when it comes to protecting clients’ personal data from unauthorized access. Reed Smith will deploy Diamond DFEs to ensure that our network delivers the performance, high-availability and – most importantly – the confidentiality our worldwide clients demand.”

VoIP testing

VoIP Тестване

You can now see into VoIP calls by connecting between the IP phone and network and solve many problems without the need of a protocol analyzer. Diagnose phone boot-up problems, call control and measure key call quality metrics. NetTool is compatible with IP phones employing either SIP or SCCP call control protocols.

The Boot Log displays key boot events such as DHCP address acquisition, DNS lookup of call servers and gateways, downloading of operating files, and call server registration. NetTool VoIP supports complete troubleshooting of the IP phone boot process including physical layer tests of structured wiring, patch cables, switch port configuration, VLANs and PoE voltage.

The VoIP Log displays call control events, QoS configuration, and call quality metrics. The log records call setup, configuration, and tear down of a call in progress. As the call proceeds, the RTP configuration is displayed including IP addresses and ports used, VLAN priority or Diff Serv and codec. Once the call is competed, the log displays the RTP quality metrics such as jitter and dropped packets.

The VoIP Monitor feature tracks call quality in progress by measuring the RTP stream and displaying the number of frames, dropped frames, out of sequence frames and jitter. The monitor also displays RTCP endpoint information such as jitter and dropped packets. Statistics are available for both the phone side and the network side while a call is in progress.

Kinemetrics' Aspen System Solution

PASADENA, CA – March. 21, 2006 – Malaysian Meteorological Service’s (MMS) Seismological Division and administered by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MoSTI ), will upgrade its current Kinemetrics' Aspen System Solution to support real-time automatic data acquisition and processing capability to detect, locate, and determine the magnitude of potentially tsunamigenic earthquakes occurring in the region and beyond or its immediate margins in order to improve Tsunami earthquake disaster prevention and reduction.

MoSTI through MMS and many other programs is responsible for the improvement of public welfare, which includes creating programs related to the prevention and mitigation of natural disasters. They also provide professional and technical training, and carry out active programs of research and international cooperation. For more information about MMS/MoSTI, please visit their website.

Malaysian MMS Aspen Seismic System is built on existing ultra-low power Q330 stations' subsystems with the addition of several new ones; all transmitting data in real-time. The MMS Aspen Data Center will consist of several SUN UNIX-based computers running Antelope and its Seismic Information System (ASIS) software. The Antelope system software will provide network data acquisition, interoperability with other existing seismic networks in regions like Australia, Indonesia through GFZ-Potsdam, Singapore, Korea, Pacific21 of Japan, CTBTO and future ones and field sites for all aspects of operations, maintenance, data analysis and data archiving.

These high fidelity and ultra-low power Q330+STS-2 seismic stations will be sending data in real-time using VSAT communications to the Network Facility (NF) at MMS, Selangor. Besides being the Data Center for MMS, the NF Antelope system will also provide readily accessible, high-quality seismic data for real-time data exchange with other regional and global networks. In addition, such high-quality seismic data could be available to academic communities and other scientific organizations for the support of both basic and applied research. To ensure network quality assurance and on-line customer support, Kinemetrics will provide on-line support from its office in Pasadena, California.

Kinemetrics' Aspen System Solution is a state-of-the-art real-time system configured to provide a comprehensive set of data and processed information for earthquake monitoring. Aspen uses Commercially-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware, industry standard communication protocols, and industry standard open software in a distributed client/server networking solution. This open-system architecture allows users to grow and adapt their systems as requirements change and new technologies emerge.

Specifics of the Kinemetrics Aspen Solution

Kinemetrics' open-architecture Aspen system solution is a state-of-the-art real-time Environmental Monitoring Solution (EMS) that delivers a comprehensive set of monitoring data, processed information, command and control capabilities to wireless measurement nodes from single or multiple Data Centers over IP.

A typical Aspen wireless measurement node consists of the ultra-high performance and low-power, 6-channel Q330HR or ultra-low power Q330 data acquisition system, K2, or Etna with Global Positioning System (GPS), an IP-based wire or wireless data communication system, various types of sensors, including video or sound and  an autonomous power module.

The latest product from Quanterra, the Q330HR, is a New Standard for Broadband Seismology & Next Generation of an Ultra-High Resolution Data Acquisition System that exceeds the IRIS GSN standard that was set by Quanterra 20 years ago. The Q330HR's actual resolution and dynamic range now breaks the 24-bit barrier to enable a new generation of broad-band instrumentation.

Each measurement node can transmit data, video or sound to the observed site Gateway and via VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) satellite technology or terrestrial IP communication links (in both real-time and dial-in/out modes of operation) to the Antelope based Environmental Monitoring Data Center where the Environmental Information System (EIS) is located.
